Our Early Years Foundation Stage has four classes, The Nursery and three Reception classes.

We begin our teaching by building on the many skills you have taught your child at home. To help us do this, we work closely with you to ensure your child makes a very happy start to their school life.

All families are offered a ‘home visit’ from their childs’ new teacher and we arrange several opportunities for you to visit the classes with your child before they start.

At this early age, children learn through exploration and investigation. Our experienced teachers carefully plan a wide range of daily activities based on the children’s interests. The children choose the area they would like to play in, inside or outside, and the staff guide their learning, introduing new ideas and language. Through the play based activities we gradually introduce essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy.

Great importance is placed on encouraging children to be self-confident, co-operative and sensitive to the needs of others. We help them to become independent in meeting their own needs and encourage them to make decisions and form their own opinions. Praise and reward are our constant tools as we work hard to develop every child’s individual abilities.

Children’s progress is carefully monitored and we invite you to come in and see their Learning Journey records at regular intervals. Staff are always available for informal conversations at the end of each day.

The Mead has outstanding Early Years facilities and our happy, settled children are a testament to our success in providing an excellent start to their education.

We welcome visits from prospective parents.

Please make an appointment to meeting our Headteacher and tour our school.
