About Year One

Year One is made up of an inspiring team of Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants who are committed to helping each individual child reach their full potential. There are three classes, Badger, Hedgehog and Squirrel, who follow the Key Stage One National Curriculum in all subject areas. The beginning of the year is a crucial time, ensuring that the transition from Reception is as smooth as possible. There is a great deal of communication done between the staff during this period, making sure the children feel happy, settled and keen to learn. Throughout the year we cover a huge variety of topics, including Animals, Up, Up and Away and Homes Around the World.

Our aim is for the children  to leave Year One as confident, independent, inquisitive learners.

Badgers – Mrs L Finch, Mrs N Soddy & Mrs T Anderson

Hedgehogs – Miss L Hodgson, Mrs S Hasan & Miss L Price

Squirrels – Mrs M Abbott,  Mrs L Sheahan & Mrs S Browne

Mrs C Fletcher – HLTA

Mrs K Warner – TA

At the beginning of the day the classroom doors open at 8.50am and the children take themselves to their cloakroom.  Your class teacher or TA will be at the door if you need to pass a message on.

Home time is at 2.55 pm.  The children will dismissed from the back door of their  classrooms.  Please make sure you identify yourself to the adults, as there are a lot of people around at that time.

Please note on which day your child has PE and ensure that their PE kit is in school.  We ask that children are also provided with tracksuit bottoms so that they can go outside and remain warm as the weather becomes colder.  All PE kit must be clearly named.

Regarding children who have pierced ears, please note that we are not permitted to remove or tape earrings.  Therefore we ask you to remove  earrings before school for Health and Safety reasons.  Long hair must be tied up as well.

It is not necessary to provide your child with a snack as children will be given fruit during the morning.  Please provide a named bottle of water for your child to drink throughout the day.

Homework is given on Friday, to be returned on Wednesday.  The homework focus will change each term.  Please support your child in completing this as it supports the work we do in the classroom.

For Year One, the following after school clubs will be offered over the year: Football, Tag Rugby /  Golf, Spanish, Tennis and Drama Tree.  Letters will coming out as and when these clubs start up.
