Personal, Social and Health Education

At The Mead children learn about themselves as devloping individuals and as members of their communities. We place great importance on the need to be a considerate member of The Mead Family and the wider community.

The children are provided with regular opportunities to discuss issues in Circle Time and Assemblies. They learn rules and skills for keeping themselves healthy and safe and for behaving well. They have opportunities to show they can take responsibilty for themselves and their environment. They begin to learn about their own and other people’s feelings and become aware of their views, needs and rights of other children.

As members of a class and school community, they learn social skills such as how to share, take turns playing and help others to resolve conflict. They begin to take an active part in the life of their school and its neighbourhood.

We are proud of our strong partnership with parents. We welcome the close involvement of parents in the education of their children and welcome those who volunteer to work alongside us at the school.

All new families in the Nursery and Reception are offered a ‘home-visit’ . This gives the parents and children an opportunity to meet the teacher and assistant on their home environment. Parents are invited to several workshops and meetings, each designed to share information about the school and the curriculum.
