Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of this half-term, I am delighted to share with you some of the exciting learning experiences our children have enjoyed. It has been a busy and productive few weeks, and we are incredibly proud of the progress each child has made. Thank you to all of the staff for their hard work.

We have also been reinforcing our behaviour expectations, known as “The Mead Way,” focusing on the principles of being Ready, Respectful, and Safe. These rules are designed to ensure that everyone at The Mead is happy, safe, and able to do their best learning.

  • Ready: Encouraging children to be prepared for learning, both mentally and physically.
  • Respectful: Teaching the importance of treating others with kindness and consideration and celebrating our differences.
  • Safe: Emphasising the need to follow safety rules to protect themselves and others.

Below are the visuals we use to support the children's understanding of our expectations. Your children will be able to explain to you what they mean!

By adhering to these rules, we create a positive and supportive environment for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support

I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday. Enjoy this time with your families, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, 4th November.

Warmest regards

Mrs Creasey

                     Harvest Festival

We enjoyed a lovely Harvest Assembly today where we gave thanks and the children sang songs beautifully. I was very proud of them. Thank you so much for the generous donations. These will be collected after half term and taken to the Epsom and Ewell food bank.

We are delighted that we are able to offer yoga again for our year 1 and 2 children as part of our curriculum. These engaging weekly sessions are not only fun but also highly beneficial. The children are learning mindfulness and enhancing their flexibility and core strength.

                       Attendance and Punctuality

Whole school attendance currently stands at 96.4 %.

Attendance is strongly linked to how well pupils achieve; for this reason, the attendance of all pupils is closely monitored.  Unless your child is unwell, the expectation is that your child attends school every day.

The importance of good attendance has also been taught to the children in assemblies this half term and they are enjoying  being attendance heroes

If you are unsure of whether your child is well enough to attend school please click on the link for some useful advice from the NHS Is my child too ill for school?

Changes regarding penalty notices that come into effect from 19th August 2024

Please click on the link below to take you to our attendance page on the website where you will find the letter sent to parents informing you of the changes. Our attendance policy has also been updated to reflect these changes.

The Mead Infant and Nursery School - Attendance

If we have concerns about your child's attendance, in the first instance, your class teacher will raise this with you to see if there is any support we can provide to help improve your child's attendance.

Punctuality

It is important that your child arrives at school on time. Arriving late means that your child is missing learning and joining their lessons late and this can sometimes cause anxiety for your child. If you need any help to ensure your child arrives on time, please do speak to your class teacher.

                     Year 2 Space Dome

Year 2 had an incredible time in the Space Dome! The interactive experience was both fun and engaging, sparking curiosity and excitement amongst the children. They learnt about the solar system, the different planets, and the wonders of space exploration. This immersive experience made complex concepts easy to understand and truly brought the subject to life. It was a memorable educational adventure that left everyone eager to learn more about the universe!  These were some of the images the children experienced in the dome.

          School Uniform Reminder

Please remember that children are required to wear black leather shoes or plain black trainers to school. If children wear black trainers, they should be completely black, including the sole and any branding.

Please also remember that hairbands should be a simple style in school colours only. Please save the sparkly ones for home!

A link to our school uniform information can be found here School Uniform

Scooters and Football

Please remember that scooting/cycling and football are not permitted in the playground before and after school. This is because the playground is very busy at these times and both adults and children could be accidentally hurt. Please help us keep our families safe in the playground.

Thank you

        Year One Walk to Stoneleigh

Our Year One children embarked on a walking tour of Stoneleigh to explore the buildings. This hands-on experience allowed the children to apply their geographical skills in a real-world setting, observing and discussing the different types of structures and their purposes within our community. By examining the local environment, the students gained a deeper understanding of how buildings contribute to the character and functionality of Stoneleigh. This activity not only enhanced their knowledge of geography but also fostered a sense of connection to their local area.

                               Safeguarding

The Mead Infant and Nursery School is committed fully to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects our school community to share this commitment. The health, safety and well-being of every child are our paramount concern.  We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us.

Everyone has a duty to keep children safe from abuse and neglect

If you are concerned about a child’s welfare whilst you are in school, please record your concern, and any observations or conversation heard, and report to one of the DSLs as soon as possible the same day. Do NOT conduct your own investigation.  (Please refer to our website under safeguarding for information of whom the DSLs are)

If your concerns relate to the actions or behaviour of a member of staff (which could suggest that she/he is unsuitable to work with children) then you should report this to the Headteacher (or the Chair of Governors if the concern relates to the Headteacher) – who will consider what action to take.

If you are concerned about a child and it is outside of the school, it is important that you report your worries to the correct agency.

The following link will direct you to Surrey C-SPA (Single Point of Access)

Children's Services Contact Information  where you will find key contact information and a secure email address to use.

To phone the Surrey C-SPA, please call:

0300 470 9100 (Mon to Fri 8:00 - 18:00)

        Parking

We have noticed that there are still some parents parking on Cudas Close at drop off and pick-up times. Please remember that there are parking restrictions during these times and parking is not permitted on either Cudas Close or Cuddington Avenue. Please help us keep our families safe.
