Dear Parents and Carers,

We've come to the end of a busy term, and the children have engaged in a range of exciting learning experiences, enabling them to know and remember more. Thank you to the staff for their hard work and to all our parents and carers for your ongoing support.

I enjoyed watching the Christmas shows over the last couple of weeks. The children were excited about performing, and they did a great job. Their behaviour was excellent!  Well done to them, and thanks to the staff for making it happen.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing the children back on Monday 6th January.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Creasey

                  Remembrance Day Assembly

The children participated in a special assembly to commemorate Remembrance Day, where they learnt about the significance of this important occasion. We are pleased to announce that The Mead raised £148.87, a commendable amount as noted by the representative of the Royal British Legion. Thank you for your generous support!

                     Year 2 Authors

In Year 2, our young authors have been diving into the world of creativity with their Writing for Pleasure projects. The children have been busy crafting their own books based on their interests and ideas. They have also been filling their writing journals with imaginative tales. Inspired by classics like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," they've penned their own versions of the story, alongside original Minecraft books, songs, poems, and fairy tales. Their class project focused on creating fairy tales with a twist, allowing each child to explore their storytelling skills.

A huge thanks to the PA for all of their hard work and raising £5,034 this term. This contribution allows the school to acquire resources that are beyond the scope of our allocated budget. Thanks to the PA's support, we have been able to purchase 45 Apple iPads, which will benefit all of the children.

              Winter Mini Reading Challenge

Surrey Libraries are encouraging every child and their responsible adult to visit their local Surrey library to pick up their books and start reading! Children can also borrow books from our school library, and download for free Surrey Libraries’ eBooks, eAudiobooks and eComics. All reading counts! Once a child has reached their online goal, they can collect a prize in one of our libraries* by bringing along their printed certificate or showing the e-certificate to a staff member or volunteer on a device like a mobile phone. Prizes are suitable for 3+ year olds, available in most of our libraries, and as long as stock lasts. Please note that a child must be a library member to collect their prize. If someone isn’t a member yet, they can join the library online or at their local library. Library membership is free.

We have noticed that there are still parents parking illegally on Cudas Close during drop and pick-up times. Eber Kington, our local Residents Association County Councillor for Epsom and Ewell  has been in touch with the school regarding this problem.  He has informed us that parents and the school can report parking issues by email to:

SurreyParkingEnforcement@nslservices.co.uk or by telephone via their contact centre on 0330 175 5930

Please help us keep our families and children safe by parking considerately and abiding by the parking regulations.

                               School of Rock!

We were treated to an afternoon of rock classics in the school hall. Songs ranging from ‘Another one bites the dust’ to ‘Shake it off’ were played enthusiastically. We were particularly proud of how brave the performers were, for some of whom it was their first ever concert!

           School Uniform Reminder

Please remember that children are required to wear black shoes or plain black trainers to school. If children wear black trainers, they should be completely black, including the sole and any branding.

Please also remember that hairbands should be a simple style in school colours only. Please save the sparkly ones for home!

                    Year 2 Christmas Journey

The Year 2 children visited Worcester Park Baptist Church, where they participated in an interactive retelling of the Christmas story. This workshop encouraged the children to reflect on why this celebration is so special to Christians. Both the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the children's exemplary behaviour made them excellent ambassadors for the school.

Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Support

Christmas can be a difficult time for some, below are local sources of support that will be available through the festive holidays for children, young people and their families in Surrey

The Mindworks Surrey website is  full of useful information for children, young people, families and carers, and professionals. There are lots of suggested helpful organisations, resources for supporting those with a Neurodevelopmental need.

Young people can also find free, confidential online support by visiting Kooth which offers one-to-one text-based counselling, therapeutic messaging, as well as peer-to-peer support through moderated forums and articles.

There are drop ins at the Children Young People Havens which are run by Surrey County Council, with support from the Surrey Wellbeing Partnership, and are a safe space for children and young people aged 10-18 to talk about worries and mental health, in a confidential, friendly and supportive environment.

For families and carers, our out of hours advice line for ND runs from 5pm-11pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year and can be reached on: 0300 222 5755.

If a child or young person needs help urgently over the festive people or you are supporting a young person in a crisis, please call our 24/7 mental health crisis line free on 0800 915 4644. It’s open all day and all night, seven days a week.

   Scooters and Bikes

Please remember that scooting/cycling and football are not permitted in the playground before and after school. This is because the playground is very busy at these times and both adults and children could be accidentally hurt. Please help us keep our families safe in the playground.

Thank you
