Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of the term, I’d like to thank you for your continued support. The children have worked hard and enjoyed a wide range of learning experiences, and we are proud of the progress they have made.

The Christmas performances were a lovely way to finish the term. The children approached them with confidence and performed beautifully. Thank you to the staff for their efforts in preparing these events.

We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 5th January for the start of the spring term.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Best wishes,
Mrs Creasey

                    Reading Together Every Day

We’d like to remind all parents and carers of the importance of sharing your child’s reading book with them every day. Just a few minutes of reading together can make a huge difference to their confidence, vocabulary, and overall love of learning. Daily reading helps children develop fluency, comprehension skills, and a lifelong enjoyment of books. If you find yourself short on time, why not ask an older sibling, grandparent, or another family member to read with your child? Every little bit of shared reading counts and supports their progress.

                   Mathematicians in Reception

Reception have been really enjoying their maths lessons this term, especially exploring number bonds. The children have been working hard to understand how numbers fit together, using practical activities to make learning fun and engaging. They loved using counters and cubes to find different ways to make 5 and 10, and their confidence grew as they began to spot patterns and explain their thinking. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm and curiosity as they have developed these important early skills!

                               School of Rock!

This term, our talented Rock Steady bands treated parents and carers to a fantastic performance. The children showcased their musical skills with confidence and enthusiasm, and it was wonderful to see their hard work pay off. A big congratulations to all our young musicians – you were brilliant!

                       Year 2 Fairy Tale Writing

This term, our Year 2 children have absolutely loved their class writing project on fairy tales. They have worked hard to create their own imaginative versions, carefully including descriptive noun phrases to bring their settings and characters to life. Their thoughtful word choices, packed with interesting verbs and adverbs, have added extra detail and excitement to their stories. Well done, Year 2 – we have thoroughly enjoyed reading your magical fairy tales!

Working Together to Support Good Attendance

At The Mead Infant School, we know that regular attendance is key to your child’s learning and wellbeing, and we are committed to working in partnership with you to achieve this.

If we have any concerns about your child’s attendance, your child’s class teacher will contact you in the first instance to see how we can support you in improving attendance. If there is no improvement, we will send you a letter of concern and will monitor your child's attendance on a weekly basis.

If there is no improvement, we will invite you to a meeting to discuss how we can work together to support better attendance. If your child’s attendance falls below 90%, they are classified as a persistent absentee. We may complete an attendance assessment and attendance contract to support you to improve your child's attendance.

If attendance still does not improve, we may need to involve the Surrey Inclusion Team, and please be aware that this could result in a fine. Our aim is always to work collaboratively with families to ensure every child has the best possible opportunity to learn and thrive.

It is important that your child arrives at school on time. Arriving late means that your child is missing learning and joining their lessons late and this can sometimes cause anxiety for your child. If you need any help to ensure your child arrives on time, please do speak to your class teacher.

                    Year 2 Christmas Journey

The Year 2 children visited Worcester Park Baptist Church, where they participated in an interactive retelling of the Christmas story. This workshop encouraged the children to reflect on why this celebration is so special to Christians. Both the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the children's exemplary behaviour made them excellent ambassadors for the school.

   Scooters and Bikes

Please remember that scooting/cycling and football are not permitted in the playground before and after school. This is because the playground is very busy at these times and both adults and children could be accidentally hurt. Please help us keep our families safe in the playground.

Thank you

                 Year 1 Christmas Card Creations

Our Year 1 children have been busy showcasing their wonderful creativity by designing and making their own Christmas cards. Using the technique of finger painting, they explored colour mixing, pattern making, and fine motor skills to create vibrant festive designs. This hands-on approach encouraged them to experiment with textures and develop their artistic confidence, while also fostering concentration and perseverance. Well done Year 1!

                              Penalty Notices

Just to remind parents/carers that if you take your child out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which does not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:

1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3-year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3-year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3-year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
