Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of this half-term, I want to celebrate the great learning and progress our children have made. It’s been a busy few weeks, and the children have worked very hard. A huge thank you to the  staff for all their hard work too!

This term, we have revisted the The Mead Way with all the children—our behaviour expectations built around three simple principles: Ready, Respectful, Safe.

  Ready

  •  I am ready to learn
  •  I do good listening and sitting.
  •   I have chosen the correct resources to help me with my learning

  Respectful

  • I listen to others and talk politely to adults and children
  • I will look after my own, others and the school’s property
  • I am kind, helpful and care about others
  •  I greet everyone at school with a “Happy Hello” and say a “Great Goodbye

  Safe

  • I listen and follow instructions from adults 6
  • I do wonderful walking when I am moving through the school
  • I follow our internet safety rules ? I play safely in the playgrounds

These values help create a happy, supportive environment where every child can thrive. Ask your child about them—they’ll know what they mean!

Below are the visuals we use to support the children's understanding of our expectations. Your children will be able to explain to you what they mean!

Thank you for your continued support. Wishing you all a happy and restful break. Enjoy time with your families, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 3rd November.

Warmest regards

Mrs Creasey

                     Harvest Festival

The children enjoyed their Harvest Assembly. They performed beautiful singing and thoughtful poems, creating a warm and reflective atmosphere. It was lovely to see everyone taking time to be thankful and to think of those less fortunate. We are incredibly grateful for your generous donations, which will be delivered to the Epsom Food Bank to support families in need. Thank you for helping us make a difference in our community!

                           Black History Month

To celebrate Black History month our children in year 2  have been learning about two incredible artists: Alma Thomas and Kehinde Wiley. Alma Thomas, known for her vibrant abstract paintings, and Kehinde Wiley, celebrated for his striking portraits that  have inspired our pupils to think creatively and boldly. After exploring their unique styles the children created their own pieces, experimenting with colour, pattern, and portraiture. Well done year 2!

Working Together to Support Good Attendance

At The Mead Infant School, we know that regular attendance is key to your child’s learning and wellbeing, and we are committed to working in partnership with you to achieve this.

If we have any concerns about your child’s attendance, your child’s class teacher will contact you in the first instance  to see how we can support you in improving attendance. If there is no improvement we will send you a letter of concern and will monitor your chid's attendance on a weekly basis.

If there is no improvement, we will invite you to a meeting to discuss how we can work together to support better attendance. If your child’s attendance falls below 90%, they are classified as a persistent absentee. We may complete an attendance assessment and  attendance contract to support you to improve your child's attendance.

If attendance still does not improve, we may need to involve the Surrey Inclusion Team, and please be aware that this could result in a fine. Our aim is always to work collaboratively with families to ensure every child has the best possible opportunity to learn and thrive.

It is important that your child arrives at school on time. Arriving late means that your child is missing learning and joining their lessons late and this can sometimes cause anxiety for your child. If you need any help to ensure your child arrives on time, please do speak to your class teacher.

Reception's Maths Adventures - Exploring Capacity!

This term, our Reception children have been busy developing their understanding of capacity in maths. They’ve loved getting hands-on with lots of practical activities, from filling and emptying containers to comparing which holds more or less. These playful experiences have sparked curiosity and confidence, helping the children see that maths is all around them! It’s been wonderful to watch their enthusiasm grow as they explore, experiment, and develop a real love of maths through meaningful, fun learning.

                             Penalty Notices

Just to remind parents/carers that if you take your  child out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:

1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.

                  The Circles all Around Us

Reception have been thoroughly enjoying story time , especially exploring the theme of circles all around us. They listened attentively to stories that highlighted shapes in our everyday world and were excited to spot circles in familiar objects. Inspired by what they heard, the children created their own beautiful illustrations, using bright colours and imaginative details to bring the stories to life.

          School Uniform Reminder

Please remember that children are required to wear black leather shoes or plain black trainers to school. If children wear black trainers, they should be completely black, including the sole and any branding.

On PE days children are expected to wear the school PE which is the following:

  • White t-shirt (with or without logo)
  • Royal blue PE shorts (not Bermuda or lycra style)
  • Black plimsolls or plain black trainers
  • Dark grey tracksuit bottoms (optional for outside PE in cold weather)
  • P.E. Quarter Zip Top with school logo (optional but only to be worn on PE days)
  • School jumper/cardigan
  • Earrings must be removed

Scooters and Football

Please remember that scooting/cycling and football are not permitted in the playground before and after school. This is because the playground is very busy at these times and both adults and children could be accidentally hurt. Please help us keep our families safe in the playground.

Thank you

Our Nursery children have made a fantastic start! They have settled quickly and happily into Nursery life, growing in confidence each day. It’s wonderful to see them enjoying our key texts and poems, exploring the learning environment with curiosity, and forming new friendships along the way. Well done, Nursery—we are so proud of you!

                               Safeguarding

The Mead Infant and Nursery School is committed fully to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects our school community to share this commitment. The health, safety and well-being of every child are our paramount concern.  We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us.

Everyone has a duty to keep children safe from abuse and neglect

If you are concerned about a child’s welfare whilst you are in school, please record your concern, and any observations or conversation heard, and report to one of the DSLs as soon as possible the same day. Do NOT conduct your own investigation.  (Please refer to our website under safeguarding for information of whom the DSLs are)

If your concerns relate to the actions or behaviour of a member of staff (which could suggest that she/he is unsuitable to work with children) then you should report this to the Headteacher (or the Chair of Governors if the concern relates to the Headteacher) – who will consider what action to take.

If you are concerned about a child and it is outside of the school, it is important that you report your worries to the correct agency.

The following link will direct you to Surrey C-SPA (Single Point of Access)

        Parking

We have noticed that there are still some parents parking on Cudas Close at drop off and pick-up times. Please remember that there are parking restrictions during these times and parking is not permitted on either Cudas Close or Cuddington Avenue. Please help us keep our families safe.

Thank you
