Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of this half-term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a busy and productive few weeks in school.

The children have continued to work hard and have approached their learning with focus and positivity. We continue to place emphasis on The Mead Way to support the children in understanding our behaviour expectations and the importance of making positive choices.

As a reminder, our Mead Way expectations are centred around three simple rules:

Be Ready
? I am ready to learn.
? I do good listening and sitting.
? I have chosen the correct resources to help me with my learning.

Be Respectful
? I listen to others and talk politely to adults and children.
? I will look after my own, others’ and the school’s property.
? I am kind, helpful and care about others.
? I greet everyone at school with a “happy hello” and say a “great goodbye."

Be Safe
? I listen and follow instructions from adults.
? I do wonderful walking when I am moving through the school.
? I follow our internet safety rules.
? I play safely in the playground.

There have been a range of valuable learning experiences across the half-term. One moment that stood out for many of the children (and staff!) was the visit from the ewe and her two 10-day-old lambs. This provided a memorable opportunity for the children to observe and talk about new life at close hand, and it generated a great deal of interest and thoughtful discussion.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Working in partnership makes a significant difference to the children’s experience and helps to ensure they feel confident and secure in school.

I would also like to thank the staff team for their ongoing commitment and hard work in providing a positive, happy learning environment for all children.

I hope you have an enjoyable and restful half-term break, and we look forward to welcoming the children back for the final part of the summer term on Monday June 1st.

Kindest regards

Mrs Creasey

We loved having our special visitors for the week!

Watch Us Grow! Year 2 Explore Plant Life

The Year 2 children have thoroughly enjoyed their  Science topic on  Plant Growth. Throughout the unit, they have been investigators, exploring what plants need to grow and stay healthy. They learnt about the importance of sunlight, water, and nutrients, and even carried out their own experiments to observe how plants change over time. The children were fascinated to discover how seeds germinate and how roots and shoots develop. They also developed their scientific skills by making careful observations, recording their findings, and asking thoughtful questions.

Pond Dipping and Mini Beast Hunting

                    at Nower Wood!

Reception had a wonderful time on their recent trip to Nower Wood, where they enjoyed a busy and exciting day of outdoor learning. The children loved pond dipping, carefully exploring the water to discover fascinating creatures, and had great fun spotting a variety of minibeasts during their “minibeast hunt ”! A  picnic together gave everyone a chance to refuel and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Throughout the day, the children learnt so much about habitats, life cycles and how to care for the natural world. Thank you to all our volunteers who helped on the day.

                      News about the Ducklings

It is now a week since the ducklings returned to the farm, and we have received a lovely update from the farm!
"If you returned any ducklings to us, they joined the ones that we hatched here on the farm at the same time as you were hatching yours.
They are now all together in our purpose-built brooding sheds with a large heat plate to keep them warm and cosy. They have special drinkers and a large feeder, so they have constant access to everything they need. They spend most of the day zooming around in the large space of the brooding shed and enjoying the warmth of the sunshine.
They will stay here for a few more weeks and when they are large enough we will let them out into the grass paddocks where they can enjoy the lovely environment. Thank you all for looking after them so well. We have attached a picture for you!"

                            Authors in Year 2 !

The children in Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed stepping into the role of authors this term as they created their own Claude stories. They showed great enthusiasm and imagination, carefully crafting characters, settings and exciting plots inspired by the familiar text. Through this work, they have developed their understanding of story structure, including how to build suspense, describe emotions and use rich vocabulary to engage the reader. The children have also worked hard on improving their handwriting, punctuation and sentence construction, taking pride in editing and improving their work. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as writers, and they are incredibly proud of their finished stories.

             Year 1 Curiosity Letters

In Year One, the children have been enjoying learning about letter writing in their English lessons. They have explored how to structure a letter and have each written their own, which they were very excited to post. A highlight of the experience was walking together to the postbox to send their letters, helping them understand how communication works beyond the classroom. The children are now eagerly looking forward to receiving replies and seeing the results of their hard work!

                     School Uniform Reminder

Please remember that children are required to wear black leather shoes or plain black trainers to school. If children wear black trainers, they should be completley black, incuding the sole and any branding.

Please also remember that hair bands should be a simple style in school colours only. Please save the sparkly ones for home!

From Clay to Creation: Year 2’s Amazing House Tiles

This term, our Year 2 children have thoroughly enjoyed their Art units on sculpture and 3D clay house.   A particular highlight was the house tiles lesson, where pupils explored how patterns, textures and colours can be used to represent different types of homes. Using clay, they carefully shaped and carved details such as bricks, windows and roofs, developing their techniques of joining and texturing materials.  The children were incredibly proud of their finished tiles.
