Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of another successful year at The Mead Infant and Nursery School, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the many achievements, experiences and special moments we have shared as a school community.

This year has truly reflected our motto, "Proud to Belong." Our children have embraced opportunities with enthusiasm, curiosity and determination. They have grown in confidence, developed new skills and continued to demonstrate the kindness, resilience and respect that make The Mead such a special place to learn.

We have enjoyed a wide range of enriching experiences throughout the year. One of the highlights was taking part in Loan a Lamb, where the whole school had the opportunity to care for a ewe and her two ten-day-old lambs for a week. The children learned about animal care and welfare through first-hand experience and thoroughly enjoyed observing the lambs and finding out more about life on a farm.

Our educational visits also brought learning to life. Reception visited Nower Wood, developing their understanding of habitats and the natural world through outdoor learning. Year 2 enjoyed a visit to Kew Gardens, exploring plant life and extending their scientific knowledge, as well as a trip to Brooklands Museum, where they learned about the history of transport and innovation through real-life experiences.

Our Nursery children have had an equally exciting year. They watched eggs hatch into ducklings, learning about life cycles as they observed the changes each day. They also enjoyed a visit from a Big Red Bus, which inspired imaginative play, discussion and learning.

These are just a few of the many opportunities our children have experienced this year. Each one has helped deepen their learning and broaden their understanding of the world around them.

None of this would have been possible without the support of our families. Thank you for your continued partnership throughout the year. Whether attending events, supporting learning at home or volunteering your time, your contribution makes a significant difference to our school community and to the opportunities we can offer our children.

I would also like to thank our dedicated staff team. Their commitment, care and hard work ensure that every child feels valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their best. They play a vital role in making The Mead such a positive place to learn and grow.

To our Year 2 children, as you prepare to move on to junior school, we are incredibly proud of all you have achieved during your time at The Mead. We know you leave us well-prepared for the next stage of your education, and we wish you every success in the future.

As we look ahead to the summer holidays, I hope all of our families have the opportunity to rest and enjoy time together. We look forward to welcoming the children back in September and extending a warm welcome to the new families joining our Mead community.

Have a wonderful summer break.

Best Wishes

Mrs Creasey

                                    Sports Day

Our Sports Day was a fantastic event and a wonderful celebration of teamwork, determination and enjoyment. The children had a great time taking part in all the activities and races, showing enthusiasm, resilience and excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. We were incredibly proud of how well they behaved, cheering each other on and representing the school so positively. A huge thank you to NS Sports for organising such an enjoyable event, and to the Auriol Sports Leaders for their support, encouragement and help in making the day such a success. Well done to all of our children for making it such a memorable occasion!

   Stoneleigh Library Summer Reading Challenge

We are delighted to share that the Summer Reading Challenge 2026 is now underway! This year's exciting theme, Read to the Beat, celebrates the connection between stories and music, encouraging children to explore their imagination, creativity and love of reading throughout the summer holidays.

The Summer Reading Challenge is the UK's biggest children's reading programme and is a fantastic way to help children maintain and develop their reading skills while having fun.

How to take part:

  • Sign up at Stoneleigh Community Library or online at summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.
  • Children will need to be a library member (membership is free).
  • The challenge is to read six books over the summer holidays.
  • For each book completed, children will receive a sticker to track their progress.
  • Children who complete the challenge will be awarded a certificate and medal.

Library staff will be on hand throughout the summer to recommend books, help children discover new authors and support them on their reading journey.

We encourage all of our children to take part and enjoy a summer filled with great books, new adventures and plenty of reading fun!

We’d love to hear from our children over the summer holidays! Why not send us a postcard from wherever your adventures take you—whether it’s a sunny beach, a rainy campsite, or just your cosy garden! We will display them in the school when the pupils return in September.

                             Rock Steady Concert

Our recent Rock Steady concert was a great success, filled with energy, enthusiasm, and incredible talent. Our young musicians took to the stage with confidence, showcasing their skills in vocals, drumming, keyboard and guitar playing. The progress the children have made was very evident, with their growing musical ability, performance skills and self-confidence shining through in every performance. It was wonderful to see how much they had developed since starting their musical journey. A huge well done to all the performers. The future of rock is in safe hands!

                                    Attendance

End of year whole school attendance currently stands at 95.9%

Attendance is strongly linked to how well pupils achieve; for this reason, the attendance of all pupils is closely monitored.  Unless your child is unwell, the expectation is that your child attends school every day.

The importance of good attendance has also been taught to the children in assemblies this year and they have enjoyed being attendance heroes
