Year 2 African Drumming Workshop

Year 2 enjoyed the African drumming workshop, giving them a flavour of music from West Africa.

On Monday 4th March, The Mead Infant and Nursery School was filled with the sounds of African drums as Year 2 took part in a workshop designed to give them a flavour of music from West Africa. It was exciting for the children to see this term's topic 'Africa' come to life, and to use their music ability to enhance their learning. The children started off by learning about the different notes that sound when you hit the different areas of the Djembe drum and how to create different pitched sounds when playing. The children experimented with different rhythms and speeds and worked beautifully together to learn the music of the Mande peoples. They also learnt to sing a traditional West African song. The Year 2 children thoroughly enjoyed their workshop.
